Anthony grew up in North Carolina. As a high school student, he attended the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. Subsequently, he earned a B.A. in Politics & International Affairs from Wake Forest University.
During this time, he found his love for education, minoring in Schools, Education, and Society, working as a volunteer in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, and producing a senior thesis focused on education in the local community, which won Wake Forest's Jack D. Fleer Award.
He also earned master's and doctoral degrees in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Virginia and a certificate in School Management & Leadership from Harvard University.
For more than a decade, he has held a variety of professional roles including classroom teacher, grade-level chair, department chair, learning specialist, literacy interventionist, Assistant Director of Upper School, and consultant.
He has presented at a variety of conferences on a range of subjects including the National Association for Gifted Children's Annual Conference, the NC Association of Independent Schools Middle/High School Conference, and the Divergent Thinking Summit.
He is certified as a Clinical Level Practitioner by the Orton-Gillingham Academy, the nation's gold standard for accrediting specialists and schools serving dyslexic students. He also is a Fellow-in-Training for the OGA, training other practitioners in the approach. In 2021, he became a National Board Certified Teacher - Middle Childhood Generalist, an accomplishment earned by less than 3% of American teachers.
